Pacific Grove Museum of Natural History was established in 1883 and, since then, has been home to numerous birds and wildlife, plants, cultural riches, and geology pieces that showcase the uniqueness of California’s Central Coast. Some of the exhibits at the museum include mammals, monarch butterflies, and a native plant garden. The museum also has an Adopt-a-Bird Program where you can adopt a bird from the museum’s collection for a period of one year to support the conservation of the bird collection and collection management.
When you adopt a bird, your name is displayed on the bird mount in the museum for one year. Additionally, you receive a detailed description and photo of your adopted bird, as well as an email containing a schedule of conservation dates for viewing. In order to encourage more children to be part of the Adopt-a-Bird Program, hatchling-level birds must be adopted by someone who is under 18 years of age.
